The Artists: Fiona Macrae
Fiona grew up in Argyll , studied painting at Glasgow school of Art graduating in 2000 and has since had a full time career in painting. Working from her studios in Taynuilt and on the Isle of Tiree, she has exhibited nationally and internationally.
Her paintings are tabletop still lifes. Heavily influenced by flat winter island landscapes, both in colour and composition; the wonderful grays of the sea, sky, rock pools, wet sand and the raw brown bare earth, with the occasional splash of lichen green. The objects are from her domestic surroundings, most of which have been found over years of searching junkshops and the internet, akin to beachcombing.
“I aim to create, across the surface of the paper, a dialogue using flat planes of colour, space, layering and mark making . The pottery pots, kitchen utensils textiles and fish are vehicles on which to hang yet more colours.”
